Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and volunteering for the community. First of all, he was raised by Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie, on a farm near Eufala in Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award as the nation's best lineman. During his three years as Oklahoma's starting quarterback The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and captured two national titles. In his role as a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third year in the year 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout college. After graduation, he landed in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers were all-pro three times and started an entrepreneurial career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no surprise that Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the top 10 young people in America. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in size and weighed in at 256 pounds as a college player he captained the 1975 team. In 1993, he was a part of at the University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
